Rancho Bernardo is located @ 20 miles north of downtown San Diego. It is a master planned community with a population of @45,000 residents covering 7,000 acres. The topography is picturesque with rolling hills and canyons and golf courses. John and Laurence Daley purchased the land for cattle grazing and in 1961 they and W.R. Hawn and Harry L. Summers established "Rancho Bermardo." AVCO Community Developers soon began developing the community. My mother actually lives in one of the first areas developed, "Seven Oaks" which is a designated Senior community. One of the first things people notice when they first visit this lovely town is all the red tile roofs and the pristine landscaped medians and conforming zoning. Rancho Bernardo offers many restaurants, shopping, excellent medical facilities, libraries, senior activities,youth activities, hiking trails, tennis and golf. Condos start at $200,000's, patio homes at $300,000's, single family homes in the $400,000's and luxury homes $800,000+. Some of the homes have gorgeous golf course and or mountain views. There are two senior neighborhoods; Seven Oaks and Oaks North (55+ years) , several more adult oriented neighborhoods and many family oriented neighborhoods. Many of the neighborhoods have community centers offering pools, tennis, preschools, fitness, racquet sports and social activities.
