Poway was incorporated in 1980 in an effort to preserve its rural flavor. Located just 25 miles from San Diego Airport and 3 miles east of Interstate 15 it enjoys a convenient location in North Inland San Diego. There are 4700 acres which are remain as " open space" in the total 39.4 square mile area of this vibrant town. Hiking is enjoyed by residents with 82 miles of hiking trails. Lake Poway is a popular attraction for hiking as well as fishing. There are 25 parks and according to Poway.org 50 community events planned yearly. The median family income (Poway.org) is $78,000. There are a variety of homes and condos available in Poway. Poway Unified School District (P.U.S.D.) one of the best features of Inland North County San Diego is world-class and is consistently ranked among the top public schools in California. Even if you don't have school age children, the Poway schools are a real benefit to keep our home values up and our neighboring children educated. P.U.S.D. serves nine communities: Poway, Rancho Bernardo, Carmel Mountain Ranch, Sabre Springs, Bernardo Springs, Bernardo Point and Rancho Penasquitos and the two developing communities of 4S Ranch, Del Sur, Santaluz. and Santa Fe Valley (west of Rancho Bernardo). Poway Offers Residents Many Cultural and Recreational Opportunities
The Poway Center for the Performing Arts is one of the finest facilities for performing art lovers. This 800-seat theater offers a variety of top-notch entertainment including plays, dance recitals and concerts.
Lake Poway Recreational Area located at the east end of Lake Poway Rd. is an extensive recreational facility with volleyball courts, softball diamonds, fishing, boating, picnicking, hiking and camping. Nature lovers flock to the 700-acre Blue Sky Ecological Reserve in Poway, home to rare plants and animals as well as the Clyde Rexrode Wilderness area.
Old Poway Park is a unique feature to Poway with a railway theme located at the corner of Midland Rd. and Temple St. (14134 Midland Rd.. Here you will find a Heritage Museum, operating steam train, historic buildup, picnic areas and a Farmer's Market every Saturday from 8-noon to purchase you fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, eggs, honey and more.
Poway Community Park located at 13094 Civic Center Dr. offers swimming, lighted athletic fields, and auditorium, dog park, tennis courts, basketball court and a seniors center. There are 25 parks within the boundaries of Poway. Poway also boosts a Skateboard Park with 12,000 sqft of concrete bowls and rails.
Poway Offers Shopping Opportunities
There are an abundance of retail opportunities to "shop until you drop" within the borders of Poway. The major grocery chains are present; Von's. Ralph's, Stater Brothers, Henry's and large "box" stores such as Wal-Mart, Target Steinmart as well as small boutiques. Restaurants offer a variety of choices from American cuising to ethnic selections.
Poway Offers Excellent Medical Facilities
Pomerado Hospital has a large selection of specialty physicians and services. This 107 bed hospital offers 24 hour emergency care and has a large outpatient and medical office center within its complex.
Poway Has Great Year Round Weather!
Many first time buyers gets started in Poway as there are smaller homes that are affordable and offer the wonderful school system.
