Rancho Santa Fe
History of Rancho Santa Fe Around 1906, Rancho Santa Fe was developed to grow eucalyptus trees for railroad ties. Later, the wood was found unsuitable for the railroad ties and the project was stopped. The trees continue to flourish in the Rancho Santa Fe community. Rancho Santa Fe is a rather exclusive and expensive community. Despite being one of the ten wealthiest communities in the entire USA, residents take pride in the low profile and private living. The population of the San Diego metro area is growing, but there are some growth restrictions in Rancho Santa Fe. The Rancho Santa Fe Association limits the lot sizes of all properties to between one acre to nearly three acres. These restrictions have helped to maintain a rural feel in a metro area that's growing rapidly. In 1989, Rancho Santa Fe was designated a State Historical Landmark by the state government, and the Covenant was one of the first planned communities in the state of California
