Poway Poway was incorporated in 1980 in an effort to preserve its rural flavor. While independent from San Diego it's connected to areas, such as Rancho Bernardo of San Diego North County via the Poway Unified School District. Poway is located about 25 miles northeast of Downtown San Diego and is home to many thriving businesses, Pomerado Hospital (operated by Palomar Pomerado Health System), 48,000wonderful people (according to the census of 2000) and a landscape of rolling boulder hills.
The school district office is located at 13626 Twin Peaks Road and the phone number is 858-748-0010. Nicknamed "The City in the Country" describes Poway's distinct western feel, especially during the annual "Poway Days" celebration, when the professional rodeo comes to town and during the Poway Street Fair. It's nestled in the boulder-strewn hills of Inland North County with a network of equestrian, cycling and hiking trails catering to the outdoor/country lover in many of it's residents. Poway offers residents a good deal of independence from the planned communities we see so often around San Diego's Inland communities. Many areas are free from homeowner's associations and neighborhood rules and regulations. Poway has a terrific variety of homes. Old Poway offers more affordable housing while the northern half has many upscale homes. It's interesting to note as you drive through these acreages that many of the homes blend beautifully with the surrounding hillsides.
